Street Sweeping Operation Continues

News Date: Wednesday, December 31, 2025

Concerns have been raised regarding the City’s policy of continuing street sweeping year-round, contingent upon winter conditions. This year has been an anomaly. While it is not uncommon to experience one or two winter events in November or December, this year we have had several. However, none of these events resulted in significant snow accumulation on the streets that would require us to cease sweeping for the season. In fact, the winter season officially began only about a week ago.
Halting street sweeping until mid-March would be a detriment to both residents and visitors. Unfortunately, trash is often thrown into the streets or blown there, creating an unsightly appearance and potentially harboring rodents—something we all want to avoid. It has been the city's philosophy for at least 3 decades to continue street sweeping until conditions make it impossible due to excessive snow.
Even after just one week, we can already see trash and debris accumulating in the gutters where vehicles were not moved. We truly do not want to issue tickets. We are simply asking for your cooperation in moving your vehicles so we can keep our city clean and welcoming.
Most likely, within the next week or two, a significant snow event will occur that will force us to stop sweeping. Until then, let’s work together to keep our city bright and clean.
Please note that tomorrow is a City holiday, and street sweeping will not occur. However, on Friday, January 2, the sweeper will resume its standard route and will continue until further notice is issued from my office.
Thank you for your continued understanding and cooperation.
