Opening of 1976 Time Capsule

The 1976 time capsule will be opened on July 20, 2026....
On Monday, July 20th at 6:00 p.m., Lebanon City, along with the last surviving member of the City’s Bicentennial Committee will open and display the contents of the time capsule buried in 1976 by the City’s Bicentennial Committee. The capsule will be opened and the contents on display for viewing purposes only in the Multi-Purpose Room of Lebanon City Hall. Archivist Shane Keenan from the Lebanon County Historical Society will be on hand for professional consultation.

The City will be burying a new capsule on Tuesday, July 28th at 9:30 AM at the Liberty Pole in Coleman Memorial Park. The capsule will contain the contents of the 1976 capsule plus additional items added by the 250th Committee, Visit Lebanon Valley and the City of Lebanon. This capsule will be unearthed for America’s 300th Anniversary of Independence in 2076!
